2026 Ladakh Monastery festivals

Monastic festivals in Ladakh is an old tradition of Tibetan buddhist monasteries and known as CHAMS in ladakhi language. It take place in different monasteries all over ladakh during different seasons and on different dates. The main attract of the festivals are colorful, spiritual and deeply traditional. This spritual gathering and festival is dedicated to the teachings of buddha, the victory of good over evil, protection rituals for the community and the whole world and honoring different buddhas, different dieties of the monastery as well as whole tibetan buddhism.

Dates of Ladakh Monastic festival 2026 16-17 January 2026 : Spituk Gustor at Spituk monastery 15-16 February 2026 : Leh and Liker Dosmochey. It will take place in Leh as well as Liker monastery 18 February Tibetan Losar. A new year of tibetan peoples not ladakhi. 25-26 February Stok Guru Tsechu. Annual Monstic festival of Stok monastery and village. 2-3 March Matho Nagrang : Matho monastery annual festival. You can witness two oracles LHA . 1 May Buddha Purnima: In Leh city celebration of Buddhas birth,Enlightment and Mahaparinirvana 12-13 June Yuru Kabgyat: Lamayuru monastry, annual grand monastic festival of Lamayuru monastery. 24-25 June Hemis Tseschu : At Hemis monastery an annual grand festival known as Tsechu. 2-3 July Shachukul Kabgyat : Shachukul monastery anuual festival at Changthang Lalok. 3-4 July Stongdey Gustor : Annual festival of Stongdey monastery in Zanskat region. 6 July H.H Dalai lama birthday: Celebration of birthday in Leh and around places 12-13 July Phyang Tsedup: Phyang monastery annual festival in phyang village 12-13 July Karsha Gustor: Karsha monastery festival in Zanskar region. 17-18 July Korzok Gustor: Korzok monastery in Changtang near Tsomoriri lake 24-25 July Takthok Tsechu: Takthok monastery annual festival, only Nyingma monastery in ladakh. 28-29 July: Sani Nasjal: Sani monastery annual festival in Zanskar region. 29 July Tseskarmo festival: Annual monastery festival at Tseskarmo monastery Tingmosgang village in Sham region. 15 August Independence day: Celebration of independence day in Leh and all over india. 13 September Ladakh Marathon: Marathon in Leh and Nubra valley. 8-9 October Deskit Gustor: Deskit monastery festival in Nubra valley. 9 October Karma Gustor: Karma monastery annual prayer at Choglamsar Leh 26 October Tarsing Karmo: Changthang Lalok region for two days. 28-29 October Thiksey Gustor: Annual Thiksey monastery festival and grand prayer. 7-8 November Chemdey Wangchok: Chemdey monastery annual big prayer and festival. 3 December Galden Namchot: Commemorate birth,death and buddhahood of Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419 AD) A famous founder of the Gelug pa sect of tibetan buddhism.
